Defects of Character

“Here are the steps we took, which are suggested as your Program of Recovery:”
- Admitted we were powerless over alcohol — that our lives had become unmanageable.
- Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
- Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care and direction of God as we understood Him.
- Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
- Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
- Were entirely willing that God remove all these defects of character.
- Humbly, on our knees, asked Him to remove our shortcomings — holding nothing back.
- Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make complete amends to them all.
- Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
- Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
- Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our contact with God, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
- Having had a spiritual experience as a result of this course of action, we tried to carry this message to others, especially alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Bill says: I am grateful to my God, my higher power, that I am a healed alcoholic celebrating my 21st year of sobriety this month.
My God is a powerful God, he would not be God if anything less. So, to me, he is a healer. Do the common sense rules
still apply, one drink away, let go and let God, etc. Absolutely!
For the newcomers, a basic principle of knowledge about the universe that saved my life. Follow me on this.
Energy can not be created nor destroyed, it can only change form. Meaning “Energy” always was and always will be.
Knowing this, Is the “universe” infinite or finite? To those “Experts” who know it all, how can all this be?
For me and my house, and hopefully yours, there is an infinite power far far greater than ourselves who can guide us
in our lives if he(she) is sought. There is a spiritual world out there few seek, no one understands, but it works!
