carry the message

Many may believe that sponsorship and serving in home group positions are the only ways to contribute to Alcoholics Anonymous. However, there are many more opportunities to help the still-suffering alcoholic and make a difference in our community. We at the Cleveland District Office (CDO), are excited to introduce our new Outreach & Meeting Coordinator, Tracy T., who is available to offer brief talks about other opportunities to give back through service work.

Opportunities to Serve:

  • Event Speakers and Sponsors: We urgently need volunteers who are available to speak at events, sponsor newcomers, or provide rides to meetings. (Call Tracy at 216-241-7387 for help.)
  • Answering Phones: Weekends are a crucial time for those in need. Many members find it rewarding to join together and answer calls to help the suffering alcoholic. (sign up to volunteer, call or email Tracy.)
  • Corrections Committee: Carry the message to alcoholics in correctional facilities by sharing your experience, strength, and hope; or help in other ways like distributing cans. (Stop by the first Monday of the month at 6pm to find out how you can help!)
  • Public Information Committee: Help distribute literature at local police stations, schools, community centers, libraries, and more. (Contact Tracy to get involved.)
  • Treatment Committee: Bridging the Gap program assists individuals transitioning out of treatment by providing temporary contact until a sponsor is found. (Contact Tracy to get involved in this service opportunity).

Are we going to any lengths to carry out our 12th Step Responsibility?

Our purpose is simple: to extend a hand to the newcomer, offering the same help in staying sober that we received. If you have one year or more of sobriety and believe you can help, we encourage you to discuss these opportunities by using the means above to contact us.

Together, we can extend our message of hope and recovery to those who need it most.
