Frequently Asked Questions

1What is the purpose of having an Alternate Contact?
An Alternate Contact provides consistency when a group regularly rotates service positions like Secretary or Treasurer. This person can serve as a steady point of contact for the group. Ideally, it should be a long-time member who regularly attends and is familiar with the group.
2Why does our group need a Primary Contact?

Each group should have a Primary Contact to help maintain communication between Central Office and the group. This person receives the monthly Central Bulletin by mail, which includes important updates, announcements, and information that should be shared with the group.

The Primary Contact may also be reached by the office if someone in the local area is seeking help or trying to connect with a meeting. In these situations, the role is simply to help bridge the gap—this might include returning a call, sharing accurate meeting information, or connecting the individual with someone willing to talk or meet.

Primary Contacts are not expected to handle everything themselves, but rather to help ensure that no request for help goes unanswered by guiding the person to appropriate support within the fellowship.

3Why does Central Office need correct group information?
We ask that groups keep their information up to date, including meeting location, times, and trusted servant details (such as Secretary or Treasurer contact information).

Keeping this information current is important because it helps:

  • Ensure someone looking for a meeting can find it when they need it most
  • Support 12-step calls and outreach efforts
  • Avoid returned mail and unnecessary costs
  • Verify literature purchases when needed

We also suggest that each group designate a consistent, long-time member who regularly attends the meeting to receive mail on behalf of the group.

If any updates are needed, please let us know as soon as possible—your help keeps everything running smoothly for the fellowship.
